Can you share a recent success story or example of your impact?: Recently, a migrant we will call Pedro arrived at ABBA with few expectations. He was exhausted, felt desperate and alone. He was crushed by the current impossibility of crossing into the United States and felt he was failing his family. Pedro is 35 years old. He is married with three young children. He is from Honduras and has been on his migration for over 3 months. He has been physically assaulted, sick with dehydration and exposure, and afraid every step of the way. He was totally broken and had no resources. He felt like his best option was to return to Honduras. When Pastor Ignacio told him he could help him with a return to his country, he thought he was joking. Pastor Ignacio has worked closely with the head of Migration in Guanajuato and told about Pedro, she was able to arrange a return flight home for him in two days. Pedro felt overwhelmed by what seemed impossible and couldn’t thank Pastor Ignacio enough for this “miracle”. Pastor Ignacio and the ABBA staff have helped many migrants, entire families and unaccompanied minors return to their home countries. All have been equally surprised, grateful with a mix of relief and dread. Also, see this video clip:

So Others May Eat Mexico A.C.

What is the full name of your organization?: So Others May Eat Mexico A.C.

When was your NGO founded?:

Where are you based and what areas do you serve?: So Others May Eat Mexico A.C. (SOME) is based in San Miguel de Allende. SOME serves both San Miguel de Allende and the surrounding rural areas.

Are you legally registered as an NGO in Mexico? If yes, please enter your registration number (e.g., A.C., I.A.P.).: SOME's registration number is SOM110317NA4

What is your mission in one or two sentences?: So Others May Eat's mission is to nourish the hearts and bodies of the elderly residents of San Miguel by providing nutritious, delicious meals and fostering a sense of community. We are dedicated to ensuring that every senior in need has access to wholesome food, while promoting dignity, respect and social connection among our elders.

What is the main issue your organization is working to solve?: So Others May Eat is working to provide both a nutritious meal and an opportunity for socialization for the elderly of San Miguel. SOME started in 1989 serving 11 elderly and now SOME serves between 120-150 elderly each week.

Who benefits from your work? (e.g., children, families, environment) select all that apply: Other

What is your long-term goal or vision?: SOME's goal is to continue this vital service to as many elderly residents as our stretched resources will allow. For many of our guests, this gathering is the highlight of their week - an opportunity to enjoy a full course meal and to socialize with friends. Many of our elderly have lost family and friends and live alone, making the social impact of SOME as vital as the meal itself. SOME more than a food program, it is a celebration of life.

What are the main programs or services you currently offer?: SOME offers a weekly meal to the elderly of San Miguel. This weekly meal offers an opportunity for socialization for the elderly which is a critical part of their health and well being. The weekly meal also includes live music, and an opportunity to listen to a short talk about medical issues by Dr. Grace Lim Baga.

Can you share a recent success story or example of your impact?: SOME's success can be measured by its 37 years of operation, its increase in weekly number of elderly guests, and its impact on the lives of the elderly by providing a weekly meal and time for socialization. Success can be measured by the smiles, enthusiasm, and sheer joy of the elderly guests each week.

Do you work with volunteers? If yes, how can someone get involved?: SOME has no employees and only a few contractors. The weekly meal is staffed by volunteers. Someone interested in volunteering should attend the weekly comida in the courtyard behind the Parroquia at about noon each Wednesday. They can also email Judith at

How is your organization currently funded? (e.g., private donations, grants, events): Private Donations, SOME is also funded with 20% of the income from The Spa. Since The Spa moved to a new location in 2024, its income has decreased since The Spa has only spa services but no longer has hotel services. In 2025, SOME received a grant of $85,000 pesos from the San Miguel Community Foundation to purchase the chicken for the weekly meal for one year.

What are your most urgent current needs?: The most current need is for donations to fund SOME's weekly meal. Donations can be made directly to SOME. If someone requires a tax deductible receipt for Canada, donations can be made through Armistead Canada or if someone requires a tax deductible receipt for the US, donations can be made through the San Miguel Community Foundation.

If someone donates, how is that money typically used? If you have any photos or videos please use the section at the bottom to upload. : Donations are used to fund the weekly purchase of food, supplies and small stipends for contractors e.g., musicians, person who purchases and delivers food, and the cooks.
