El Deseo de Rosey SMA
Mission: To eliminate animal suffering in our community caused by overpopulation by operating a Mobile Sterilization Clinic providing free clinics to underserved communities.
Main issue: Animal overpopulation & suffering — beneficiaries: families, animals.
Programs & Services: Free sterilization clinics for dogs and cats. Long-term goal: 5,000 free surgeries per year.
Impact: By mid-September 2025 expected surgeries since inception will exceed 1,000.
Funding: Private donations & events. Urgent needs: money to operate, volunteer vets; compensation for vets ($200–300 per surgery), medicine, supplies, bus operations, gas, maintenance & insurance.
Libros para Todos
Mission: To spread the love of reading to children in rural and low-income communities.
Main issue: Educational gap in low-income areas; beneficiaries: children & families.
Programs: Big Read, summer camps, teacher training, outreach program. Impact: 1,100 children participated in the last Big Read.
Volunteers: Spanish-speaking volunteers for outreach. Contact: makingreaders@gmail.com
Funding: Private donations. Needs: expansion support and municipal/state relationships — donations used mostly to buy more books and expand participants.
ABBA Shelter — Latin American Relief Fund (LARF)
Mission: To support the needs of migrants in central Mexico and support humanitarian organizations (including Albergue ABBA).
Main issue: Migration & hardships faced by migrants; beneficiaries: children, families, minorities.
Programs: Short-term shelter; long-term shelter for amputees; legal, educational & medical assistance; repatriation support.
Impact: Numerous migrants helped with shelter & returns (see example "Pedro" in directory notes).
Funding: Private donations, events, UN agency support. Urgent needs: immediate food, clothing, medical supplies, staff support.
EEESMA — Escuela de Educación Especial de San Miguel de Allende (School for the Deaf)
Mission: Ensure Deaf children in San Miguel become literate and independent through a bilingual model using Mexican Sign Language and written Spanish.
Programs: Pre-school to high school academic classes (SEP curriculum), sign language classes for parents, transportation, vocational and extracurricular workshops.
Impact: Parents learned sign language and made emotional presentations in Mexican Sign Language at graduation; emotional & educational breakthroughs for students.
Volunteers: Many — support weekly shop, fundraising events, teach vocational skills (woodworking, jewelry, arts).
Mujeres en Cambio
Mission: Provide financial support to academically promising girls from underserved communities so they can stay in school and build brighter futures.
Programs: Scholarships from junior high through university — currently supporting 170 girls (up to 10 years of support per student).
Impact: 10 recent university graduates; alumni include degrees in Law, Architecture, Nursing, Engineering, etc.

Funding: Private donations & events. ~98% of donations go directly to scholarships.
So Others May Eat (SOME) — Mexico A.C.
Mission: Nourish the hearts and bodies of elderly residents by providing nutritious meals and fostering community.
Programs: Weekly meal (120–150 elderly), social activities, medical talks, live music.
Impact: Operating since 1989 — a vital social & nutritional program for seniors (weekly highlight for many guests).
Volunteers: Weekly comida in the courtyard behind the Parroquia ~12:00 noon Wednesdays or email rfjaschlosser2@aol.com.
Funding: Private donations & 20% of Spa income; 2025 grant from San Miguel Community Foundation to purchase chicken for weekly meals. Needs: funds for weekly meals, small stipends for contractors.
Equinoterapia SMA
Mission: Ensure every child, regardless of finances, has access to world-class equine-assisted therapeutic services in a nurturing environment.
Programs: Therapy sessions morning & afternoon 4 days/week; work with DIF & other NGOs; volunteer-led support during sessions (3 volunteers per session).
Impact: Notable improvements in socialization, confidence, verbal skills and physical flexibility for children with neurological/physical disorders.
